LFE-Forschungskolloquium mit Dr. Lars Otto White (Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie Leipzig)

Am Freitag, den 16. Februar 2018, findet im Rahmen des LFE-Forschungskolloquiums ein Vortrag von Dr. Lars Otto White (Klinik und Poliklinik für Psychiatrie, Psychotherapie und Psychosomatik des Kindes- und Jugendalters, Universitätsklinikum Leipzig AöR, Verbundkoordinator AMIS) statt.

Der Titel lautet: „Caregivers that don’t care? Closing in on the biopsychosocial mechanisms underlying the impact of adverse caregiving on child development“.

It is widely accepted that adverse caregiving can inflict severe and lasting effects on child development. However, our understanding of the biopsychosocial mechanisms underlying these effects remains frustratingly incomplete. In this talk, I will present recent cross-sectional and longitudinal research from our lab that focuses on the sequelae of adverse caregiving for physiological stress-responses, stress-hormones as well as behavior. Attempting to embed this work within the broader literature, I will venture some hypotheses that we plan to test in further studies. This will inevitably raise the question to what extent the effects of adverse caregiving are better understood in terms of the prevailing deficit model or, rather, an adaptation-based account of how individuals fine-tune their social cognitive-emotional repertoire to tackle environmental adversity.
